Explanation of two terms:

 BD, Blu-ray disc, reads and writes data with shorter blue laser (405nm) and so gets its name. So far, Blu-ray is the most advanced CD format with super large storage capacity up to 25GB or even 50GB for a double-layered disc.

CBHD, used to be called CHDVD, means the Chinese high definition DVD. CHDVD was once the Chinese edition of HD-DVD alliance supported by Toshiba. As Toshiba announced to retreat from HD-DVD field, the Chinese edition changed its name to CBHD (Chinese Blu-ray high definition disc). CBHD, based on the latest blue laser technology, has a large storage capacity and supports HD videos up to a resolution of 1920×1080p.

BD and CBHD are not compatible with each other for the different compression techniques and CD structures applied. So customers can just choose them alternatively.

According to iSuppli, a world leading market analyzing company concerning the electronics manufacturing, PCs with Blu-ray dive only took up 3.6% of all the PCs produced in 2009. And iSuppli expected that the proportion would increase up to 16.3% in 2013, and before this expected time DVD would remain a cock of the walk.

“Even in 2013, Blu-ray still cannot take the place of DVD as the main CD diver in PC system”, said Michael Yang, an analyst specializing in storage and EMS memory. Yang stated in his announcement that Blu-ray is sure to get success finally but in the following five years there could not be remarkable achievements in terms of PC industry.

From where iSuppli stands, the failure of Blu-ray’s popularity lies in the less selectivity and higher cost and if the price of Blu-ray can be reduced, customers will be likely to install a Blu-ray driver in their PCs.

Although this may have disappointed BDA (Blu-ray disc association), iSuppli said this is not uncommon, for as long as the price has been decreased to a specific level, can Blu-ray, this new media format in PC come through.
