Since the rising of HD-DVD and Blu-ray players, many customers would be confused that if these advanced equipments are compatible with the conventional DVDs and CDs. This article will give you a few advices.

Both Blu-ray and HD player developers and manufacturers have been trying to include the ability of playing standard DVDs and CDs into their consideration and plan, but it is expected to become successful for Blu-ray players since HD-DVD has been discontinued.  It means that your current DVDS cannot only be played on a Blu-ray player but also a HD-DVD player, which is much more convenient than ever before. And when you play standard DVDs on a Blu-ray player or a HD-DVD player, you can just watch the video at a standard DVD resolution or choose the high-definition one which would be a better choice in many cases.

And there’s no need to worry about standard CDs because most Blu-ray and HD-DVD players will be compatible with standard CDs or CD-R discs. But do notice, however, there are some exceptions among which the first generation products are very noticeable like the players from Sony, Pioneer and LG. If you want to make sure whether one Blu-ray or HD-DVD player has the compatibility with standard DVDs and CDs, read the specifications and manuals carefully just before you open your wallet.

CBDH PK BD

Explanation of two terms:

 BD, Blu-ray disc, reads and writes data with shorter blue laser (405nm) and so gets its name. So far, Blu-ray is the most advanced CD format with super large storage capacity up to 25GB or even 50GB for a double-layered disc.

CBHD, used to be called CHDVD, means the Chinese high definition DVD. CHDVD was once the Chinese edition of HD-DVD alliance supported by Toshiba. As Toshiba announced to retreat from HD-DVD field, the Chinese edition changed its name to CBHD (Chinese Blu-ray high definition disc). CBHD, based on the latest blue laser technology, has a large storage capacity and supports HD videos up to a resolution of 1920×1080p.

BD and CBHD are not compatible with each other for the different compression techniques and CD structures applied. So customers can just choose them alternatively.

Player Price

BD players are famous for the high cost. When Sony released its first Blu-ray player in China, the price reached 4999 RMB. Although it has been reduced several times, it is still higher than CBHD ones. Read more…

Sony Blu-ray Player and Vaio PC

March 22, 2010 :: Posted by - author-1 :: Category - Blu-ray Tools, DVD Tools, knowledge

Sony has released the first generation of Blu-ray player, BDP-S1, in 2006. Now four years has passed and Blu-ray is not likely to be so successful developed and used as has been expected.

Sony announced the coming out of BDP-S1 Blu-ray Disc Player, a Vaio RC desktop owning a recordable Blu-ray drive as well as an internal Blu-ray disc drive for computers in 2006.

Although Blu-ray technology is said to represent the latest generation after DVD, it still has a competent opponent—-HD DVD, which has been the top priority of many users. Blu-ray, with the marvelous immense storage capacity up to 50GB, won the fierce war with HD DVD temporarily.

The vigor of Sony’s Blu-ray has been diminishing for quite a time because there are still some remaining problems to settle, and the main restriction is the high price that is caused by the complex manufacturing and the costly expense, and it seems there is no sign for large-scale price dropping. So Blu-ray still remains caviar to the general. Both the BDP-S1 player and the Vaio desktop are a little bit expensive, which will frustrate a large number of Blu-ray fans including me. Hope the price be adjusted to a desirable level.

Researches: Blu-ray Might Not Replace DVD in PC Field within Five Years

March 19, 2010 :: Posted by - author-1 :: Category - Blu-ray Tools, DVD Tools, knowledge

 Blu-ray, despite of its popularity in house product market, is difficult to spread in offices.

According to iSuppli, a world leading market analyzing company concerning the electronics manufacturing, PCs with Blu-ray dive only took up 3.6% of all the PCs produced in 2009. And iSuppli expected that the proportion would increase up to 16.3% in 2013, and before this expected time DVD would remain a cock of the walk.

“Even in 2013, Blu-ray still cannot take the place of DVD as the main CD diver in PC system”, said Michael Yang, an analyst specializing in storage and EMS memory. Yang stated in his announcement that Blu-ray is sure to get success finally but in the following five years there could not be remarkable achievements in terms of PC industry.

From where iSuppli stands, the failure of Blu-ray’s popularity lies in the less selectivity and higher cost and if the price of Blu-ray can be reduced, customers will be likely to install a Blu-ray driver in their PCs.

Although this may have disappointed BDA (Blu-ray disc association), iSuppli said this is not uncommon, for as long as the price has been decreased to a specific level, can Blu-ray, this new media format in PC come through. Since many of us would not spend that money on Blu-ray products, it is a good choice to rip Blu-ray discs to common video formats. You can find many Blu-ray ripping tools like Blu-ray to PC ripper, Blu-ray to video ripper, etc. Read more…

Blu-ray to DVD Ripper, Appealing Alternative

March 11, 2010 :: Posted by - author-1 :: Category - Blu-ray Tools, DVD Tools, knowledge

If someone asks me again whether it is possible to rip and convert Blu-ray discs to PCs, I will say “Yes” though I used to give a negative answer. Yes, I was also reluctant to tell him that I was uncertain when this could be done as well.

But now, he can be reassured that Blu-ray, definitely, can be converted to PCs in various formats at your own pleasure. What you need to do is to equip your PC with a Blu-ray to DVD ripper which will make do with all the used—to-be tough tasks. And within a short time, you can get the converted videos or audios in formats as you like which are available both on your PC and portable devices.

Then, how does a Blu-ray to DVD ripper work?

Before the conversion, make sure that your PC has been equipped with a BD driver which is essential during the conversion. Run ripper and start the conversion, then the ripper will extract the Blu-ray movies from Blu-ray files and export them to areas that you have selected in formats that you have also pre-set. A reliable ripper will provide you with customizable setting options and personal designs in many aspects. Notice that if your selected Blu-ray files are too large, it might take quite some time for the ripper to complete the converting process. But you needn’t get worried about that because the ripper is able to tell you how long it will take and when it will be finished, so you can do other things and come back at the certain time.

As we know, Blu-ray discs and players, still in the early state, are so costly that they remain caviar to the general. If you don’t want to spend that lot of money on the original Blu-ray discs and players, a Blu-ray ripper would be a good choice.
