Still think Blu-ray disc is the best one? You are out now.

 BDA (Blu-ray disc association) has announced two new upgraded format of Blu-ray, one is BDXL (High Capacity Recordable and Rewritable discs) and the other IH-BD（Intra-Hybrid discs）. A good news for relative customers, it still frustrates some people who make a living on traditional ( I must say traditional )Blu-ray  ripping and converting.

 Victor Matsuda, chairman of BD promotion department, said that many professional people or organizations are looking for a kind of professional storage device (instead of traditional magnetic medium) that has very large storage capacity for enormous saving requirement. And they have found such a solution, that is BD. Having been validated and accepted in optical memory industry, BD has succeeded to provide a steady and long-lasting solution to store large batches of sense data, videos and images for enterprises and organizations.

 And these two upgraded formats are developed for both personal and commercial usage and are better target-oriented. Details will be formally released within the next months.

  As for BDXL, enterprises and organizations especially in broadcasting, medicine and others like who require larger storage capacity for immense documents and archives. This format is triple or even four times layered, thus offering such an incredibly large storage capacity up to 100G or even 128G. And the personal edition, IH-BD will also come into being soon especially in those areas where BD has been widely used.

 HI-BD is a combination of the readable BD-ROM and the writable BD-RE and allows customers to save other personal information on the same disc without any damage to the existing data. So users are able to emerge the existing data with the additional information and customize their own discs. Besides, both the readable layer and the writable layer have a storage capacity up to 25GB respectively. The super advanced and complicated design makes it much more difficult for software master-hands to decode the two new versions.

 Now that BDXL and HI-BD are all specially designed for some specific areas, new hardware equipments are required to play or record BDXL and HI-BD. But as a kind of expansion on the existing Blu-ray technology, these two upgraded versions are compatible with the existing Blu-ray discs with a storage capacity of 25GB and 50GB.
